Changing my router to Belkin 54g

My linksys wireless router broke in less than 1 year of its use, I am very dissapointed and would denifitely not recommend using it anymore. Now I recommend Belkin 54g because it’s small, sleek and it’s cheaper! I bought mine at Rp. 430.000,- and i’m satisfied with it.. at least currently satisfied. Read on for more

And so I plugged everything in, the power cable, the modem to router via ethernet cable, and also the cable from my laptop to my router (no wifi yet because i want to check the wired connection first).

The CD came with an easy installer for the Mac OS X! So happy that apple users are not forgotten. The good thing is, I just put the CD, it starts up an easy installer, click next, put my desired wifi name and the installer does all the settings! Such a happy user I am.

Although it was easy to do the settings with the easy installer, it does not set your router password, and also the wifi password. To set this, you can go to http://192.168.2.1 (this is the default IP for administration). Go to the appropriate menu for further settings (see picture below).

For the wireless security, I use the settings like in the picture below (it’s the default :D)

Wow, Belkin was cheap. I bought my wireless router several months ago (Dlink DIR300 4 ports) and it was Rp 595.000. And my router got some issues with online gaming. It can’t connect to online game servers if the modem is connected to the router, tried so many solutions but didn’t seemed to solved the problem.

emang jelek kuy lnksys, gw paling benci klo traffic lagi banyak banget (e.g yg connect ke router lagi banyak), langsung dah restart sendiri, sampe akhirnya nge-hang. katanya si gara2 adaptor-nya jelek, ga bisa ngasi supply arus listrik yg cocok buat routernya

Mo mohon info, gw dah sukses connect n share pake modem fastnet + linksys but kenapa yah belakangan ga bisa di share, kalau gw coba connect dari laptop laen di Network Connection tiba-tiba muncul Internet Gateway. Please ditunggu bantuannya… Thanks a lot

Hm.. mbak Deasy, kalo dari pengalaman saya si itu tanda2 awal rusaknya linksys saya. Dan akhirnya saya beli baru.

Hi, kuy. Saya juga pake belkin 54G. Koneksi internet via cable dan wireless sudah jalan dengan baik. Tapi masalahnya bile pake wireless untuk video streaming kok ga bisa jalan ya…(seperti you tube ga bisa jalan streamingnya)? yang timbul dilayar hanya logo Q (quicktime player). Apakah belkin untuk tipe tersebut tidak bisa untuk streaming video atau saya salah setting? Mohon bantuannya donk…Thx A lot ya…

Previously i faced same issue but with new firmware, it solve the problem, now my dir-300 is very stable

Well, the Belkin is ok unless you run into the frequent loss of internet connection (WAN) problem - which happens when you use torrent clients (mostly but not exclusively) and become a pain in the “rearward bodily orifice”.
Those disconnects happen (may happen) as frequently as every 10 minutes.
For this very reason I can’t really fully recommend this router.
